DAY 5: HOW BEAUTIFUL

Different style of music—same message. Different vocalists—same message.

Watch Eddie and Ben take an operatic form and stoke the fires of our worship all the more in this memorable presentation from last year’s Good Friday service.

Check back every day this week for a powerful look back at other Harvest Good Friday content from thedayjesusdied.org.

DAY 4: O THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB
Meredith Andrews has been a centerpiece of our worship ministry for more than a decade. Now married to Jacob Sooter and a mother of three great kids, her ministry impact and authentic verticality have only grown.

I sat near Meredith last night in a rehearsal for this year’s Good Friday services and was again struck by her immense humility. She had just sung powerfully a song I had never heard on the subject of ‘green,’ which she had only just learned. Here is a woman whose music is sung around the world, yet she sings what is put in front of her as if she wrote it herself . . . she perseveres through trials and remains joyful in the Lord as one who truly adores Him. So thankful for Meredith’s special gifting to lead worship and her calling to minister with her husband through Vertical Church Band. I hope you get to hear her in service or online as she leads us all in adoring Jesus this weekend.

Here is something incredible she did at one of our previous Good Friday services . . .

DAY 3: LIFT YOUR HEAD
Music is a powerful communication tool, and different musical genres support different Holy Week messages. When our own Todd Rukes led this song about the conquering power of the cross and its call to every sinner in every situation, I had never heard it before and was kind of blown away. Only later did I learn that it was a recent offering from our dear friend David Crowder. The genre matches the message perfectly!

Watch and be reminded that the cross of Jesus Christ towers over and overcomes whatever binds your heart today . . .

DAY 2: WORDS
I hesitate to say this, lest I be immediately judged for my inadequacies—but I love words. I love the ability bound up in words to create images and communicate with compelling clarity. I realize the drudgery of daily life often drains our words of anything dynamic, but that doesn’t dilute their potential. Even though we see and speak so many words from day-to-day that their power is dormant, still their potential hibernates, waiting for someone to wake them up.

Listen as Tyler Thompson, one of our gifted artists, expresses glorious gospel truths through beautifully crafted and delivered words. This moved me to tears the first time I heard it, and still does . . .

DAY 1: SORROW AND LOVE
Monday through Saturday this week is like a slingshot…

The further we pull back into cross reflection, the greater our launch into the Resurrection. Without sorrow and somber meditation, the celebration is faux. God forgive our indulgent, unbiblical, Western-world clamor for coronation without cost.
